DOOM In The Lounge is a one-night-only orchestral tribute to the late MF DOOM, performed by Brooklyn-based artist VJAY.mp3 and a 10-piece ensemble. This show reimagines tracks from albums like Madvillainy, MM..FOOD, and Special Herbs—channeling DOOM’s iconic lyricism through lush arrangements and live instrumentation. Led by a head pianist, Gillian Orwell, the band features trumpet, sax, two guitars, bass, keys, drums, and backing vocalists, with VJAY.mp3 at the mic honoring DOOM’s villainous presence in voice and flow. It’s a celebration of underground hip-hop through the lens of jazz, soul, and orchestral storytelling—all within the intimate, elevated atmosphere of 54 Below.
