There are very distinctive characteristics about the people of Appalachia, particularly the women.  Like the mountains from which they come they are both beautiful and tough.  They have a weather-worn grace from going through unimaginable hardships, and they survived it all with the help of music, love, and it never hurt to have a sense of humor.

Broadway actor, singer and East Tennessee native Allison Guinn has created a night of heart, harmonies, and humor in a Old Time Country and Storytelling concert celebrating her legendary Grandmother called “The Legacy of Daisy Dean”. From her Granny’s beginnings as an orphan during the Depression, through tales of darkly humorous childhood mishaps, from forbidden first loves, to life’s great heartbreaks, Guinn tells her Granny’s life story and sings all the songs her Granny loved and taught her as a little girl. Its like an Appalachian Cinderella Story, minus the shoes!

With the help of a talented string band featuring Peter Calo and some skilled singing Broadway friends like Rachel Bay Jones (Pippin, Dear Evan Hansen), Lauren Elder (Hair, Side Show) and Briana Carlson-Goodman (Les Miserables, Hair) providing those heavenly harmonies, Allison sings her Grandmother’s favorite songs made famous by legends like The Carter Family, Roy Acuff, and Hank Williams, as well as the gospel hymns her Granny sang with her radio quartet “The Ladies’ Homeland Gospel Quartet” to create a night of music that will have you tapping your toe and singing along!
