Rupert Holmes: from Billboard to Barbra to Broadway!
Our 80th Birthday Celebration starring Rupert Holmes and his surprised guests
May 10, 2027
In a career spanning nearly 60 years, Rupert Holmes has done it all.
“Renaissance man” may be too much of an understatement. For The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Rupert became the first person in Tony® Awards history to solely win as book writer, composer, and lyricist. An influential singer-songwriter whose compositions have been recorded by Barry Manilow, Dolly Parton, Dionne Warwick, Manhattan Transfer, Margaret Whiting, The Partridge Family, and Britney Spears (!), Rupert scored the last Billboard No. 1 hit of the 1970s and the first of the 1980s with the immortal “Escape (The Pina Colada Song).” He penned multiple New York Times best-sellers, helmed the cult classic television show “Remember WENN,” and produced multi-platinum albums for Barbra Streisand. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
On February 24, 2027, this man for whom “multi-hyphenate” could have been invented turns 80. Escape: The Rupert Holmes 80th Birthday Celebration brings together a constellation of Broadway’s brightest stars – and just maybe, even the man himself! – to perform richly varied selections from The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Curtains, and Pirates! The Penzance Musical, plus No. 1 pop hits, TV and movie themes, and more surprises. Do you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain? Well, who doesn’t? This is one Escape audiences won’t soon forget.
Written/produced by Andy Skurow and Joe Marchese.
