May 15, 2016
Join us at Feinstein’s/54 Below for an evening of songs written by the talented emerging composer Blake Allen, drawn from his three musicals in development. Blake’s autobiographical musical, The Shards of an Honor Code Junkie, recently had an AEA Staged Reading, and other works in progress include a twisted film musical, HOCKET, and a chamber musical, Boston|Nebraska, based on Willa Cather’s short “A Wagner Matinee.” Blake has also been Rob Fisher’s music assistant for 3 years.
Blake is a violist having been heard with the New York Pops, Little Orchestra Society, on the 2014 Philip Glass’ recording of “Runaway Horses,” The Tempest at the Public, Tamar of the River at Prospect Theatre (OOBC album), was a 2014 Artist in Residence at The Banff Centre, and gave the NY, Canadian, and EU premiere of Shatin’s Penelope’s Song.
Blake Allen’s three musicals discuss one’s path in life, finding peace, assuaging your mistakes, and growing into a person you want to spread into the world. Come hear score highlights performed by stars from Broadway and Off-Broadway shows including Finding Neverland, Wicked, Bridges of Madison County, Kinky Boots, West Side Story, Mary Poppins and Songbird… we promise lush, thought-provoking music that will leave you contemplating life and the choices you make.
