Onward Victoria In Concert
July 19, 2016
On December 14th, 1980, a musical about Victoria Woodhull, the first female candidate for President of the United States, opened on Broadway…. and closed. Now, audiences at Feinstein’s/54 Below will get another chance to see Onward Victoria! With a score by Tony Award nominee Keith Herrmann (Romance/Romance), and book and lyrics by Charlotte Anker and Irene Rosenberg, the musical starred Jill Eikenberry, Bethe Austin, Lenny Wolpe, Michael Maslow and more. Its cast of characters includes Cornelius Vanderbilt, Susan B. Anthony, Henry Ward Beecher, Charlie Delmonico and more. Herman’s lush, sweeping score for the short-lived musical was preserved by Original Cast Records.
The evening is produced and directed by Steven Carl McCasland, with musical direction by James Horan. An all-star cast, including members of the original 1980 company, will sing Onward Victoria‘s score for the first time since its fateful opening night.
The concert will be narrated by original cast member Jill Eikenberry.
