Richard Baskin Jr: Somebody Said It Couldn’t Be Done
April 27, 2027
Broadway’s Richard Baskin Jr. (Freestyle Love Supreme) returns to the 54 Below stage in Somebody Said It Couldn’t Be Done, a one-night-only benefit for Discovery Sound Garden, the nonprofit music education organization he founded and leads as Artistic Director. Backed by the DSG Orchestra, Richard moves through favorites like “Smile” and “Man in the Mirror,” and original songs with new arrangements. True to his Freestyle Love Supreme roots, expect fully improvised numbers built on the spot from audience suggestions, so no two songs could ever be the same with multiple special guests, including young artists from DSG’s ensembles. Join Richard and support Discovery Sound Gardens all right in Broadway’s Living Room.
A portion of the proceeds from the evening support DSG’s free and accessible music programs for underserved communities.
Discovery Sound Garden is a New York City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking down barriers in the music industry by providing accessible professional education, mobile studio recording, and vibrant performance opportunities for musicians of all ages and backgrounds. By bringing the recording studio directly to neighborhoods and cultivating supportive spaces for adult learners and seasoned artists alike, Discovery Sound Garden empowers individuals to find their unique voice and share it with the world.
