“Kane Alexander has a polished vocal delivery that slides comfortably between theatrical belting and intimate pop crooning. He is poised and charming, his interpretations intelligently conceived. His show is performed with delicacy and insight.” –New York Times
“Armed with undeniable star – power… One of the entertainment events of the year.” –New York Cabaret Scenes
For his NYC debut cabaret season, Kane Alexander was named “Best New Voice” in the Theatermania Cabaret List and won both the BISTRO and MAC Awards for “Most Outstanding Debut”. Now, the Australian theatre star & Sony recording artist returns to New York for his debut performance at 54 Below.
He is perhaps best known for the lead roles he has performed on the musical stage: Bobby Strong in Urinetown (Helpmann Award nomination), Claude in the Australian production ofHair, Willard in Footloose (MO Award nomination), the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, and Billy Crocker in Anything Goes. He also performed in the 10th Anniversary production of Les Miserables, South Pacific, Angry Penguins, and Only Heaven Knows, and toured nationally with Lisa McCune in Love …and all that follows. In the USA, Kane appeared in Elegies and An Evening with Jerry Herman. Most recently, Kane performed the lead role in Stephen Sondheim’s Passion at the Arts Centre Melbourne, and starred in his own show – More Than This – at Chapel Off Chapel.
Although celebrated in Australia for his lead roles on the musical stage, and concert performances with popera stars Il Divo and Katherine Jenkins, Kane’s first love is cabaret. Delighting in the wit of a Porter lyric, or the soul-bearing honesty of a Mercer torch song, Kane is at home on the cabaret stage. This performance, an elegant and sophisticated evening for the cabaret connoisseur, will feature highlights from Kane’s career over the last decade.
