The Songs of Riley Thomas
August 19, 2016
A champion of alternative characters and storylines, Riley Thomas makes his Feinstein’s/54 Below debut with his unique blend of dark, somber and hopeful contemporary musical theatre, influenced by pop, rock and jazz. Enlisting great voices within the industry to perform stand-alones and songs from his shows, Riley has built a heartfelt, humorous, emotional journey that encourages the audience to dig deeper. Riley’s music explores old truths with fresh angles and new ideas with fearless simplicity.
A prolific playwright, screenwriter and composer, Riley’s musicals Stuck and Wearing Black have collectively won 5 accolades at the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) including recognition for book, music and lyrics. Stuck has since gone on to be made into a major Hollywood motion picture starring Giancarlo Esposito, Amy Madigan and Ashanti, with expected release this winter. He is a 2016 Weston Playhouse Invited Artist, winner of an Anna Sosenko Assist Trust Grant and Johnny Mercer Songwriter’s Certificate.
When a song doesn’t need to resort to vocal pyrotechnics, gimmicks, or stunts to be effective, the true power of musical theatre is revealed. Join us for a memorable night of contemporary musical theatre that is sure to leave you reeling!
